 Learning through play

 No matter what the weather!

Meet the team that make it happen.

We have a very simple ethos- "Every child is unique and it is our job to help them become their best selves".
There are two important parts to our set up that allow us to live up to our ethos.

 Indoor- Homely Cabin

For the comfort of our youngest members we are lucky enough to have our very own cabin in the woods. When children join us the goal is to provide them with a home from home feeling. We  have a large play area full of resources for children of all ages to choose from. We are mostly a child-led setting where they are able to decide for themselves what they want to do but we also plan specific adult-led activities throughout the day.

All children are assigned a key person who is responsible for making sure they are hitting all their milestones and most importantly having a great time, however most activities are done as part of a group and children will quickly get to know the whole team! Adult led projects are normally based on early years numeracy and literacy and adapted so all levels can participate!

 Outdoors- Daily Forest activities

With our forest school education we think it's important to give children the chance to explore, play and learn outside as much as possible. For this reason most of our day is spent outdoors.

Whilst there is ample time give to free play there are also daily adult-led group activities that the children can take part in. These will always be something to do with having fun in the outside environment, promoting resilience. Whether it's toasting marshmallows on a campfire, making jam or learning to build dens or bridges.

We believe that children who have a better understanding of the world around them are able to better understand and cultivate their own interests in the world, whilst also promoting a healthy lifestyle.

"I like camp fire day, because we cook lovely food on the fire, including marshmallows!

I love to pl
ay in the woods and run all day with my forest school friends. When it's wet, I love the mud slides. And when it's hot, we have water fights."

What Our Parents say

-    Going to Annie's has made a noticeable difference to Jack and Agnes' self-confidence and resilience. The support and nurture they've been given is more than we could ever have hoped for in a nursery – they have been encouraged to be independent, responsible and curious young people.

-  We value enormously the focus on outdoors and the recent Forest School accreditation is a huge testament to the work you've all put in. It has instilled a sense of adventure in all of the children, who learn through doing.

- There is a real sense of fun around the nursery – from water fights to roasting marshmallows on campfires to creating dens and much more, the children bound into the nursery each morning to see what is in store for them.

-     The fact that so many of your ex-nursery children come back to work at the nursery speaks volumes and is a reflection of the sense of community around the nursery and the joy that it brings to so many children.

-   We were especially delighted with how ready for school Jack was when he left the nursery. He transitioned seamlessly to school, in no small part due to the preparation he'd received at nursery.

Alex Unger

"Our son Teddy has been attending Annies  since he was almost 1 years old, he is now almost 5!

Like many others he found it a bit daunting to begin with and took a while a settle, but the family based care, gentle steps and safe and loving environment from Annie's  was amazing, and really made him part of the fold, which has been the same throughout his years there.

Teddy will be starting school this September, but will be leaving with skills, confidence and independence that will give him a brilliant head start for the school environment.

Annie 's has been one of the best things we as parents have ever done for our son, his confidence has grown and he has learnt so much. He is very proud to be teaching us all he knows about plants and growing vegetables, climbing trees, how to be safe around fires and cooking, road safety, the math and literacy he has learnt the list goes on.

His early years start to life has been so unique at Annie's setting , they have sowed a seed that will see him grow and be ready for school and even carry on those teachings into later life."

What Our Staff say

“In Annie and co- Nursery and Forest School.I am really enjoying studying on the Early Years Educator framework whilst working in the woodland with children.

I have learnt many new skills in the setting and in conjunction with the children continue to use my gardening & construction skills to build new projects. For example, we have built a greenhouse, rearranged our vegetable plot and built several rustic shelters for the children to play in and explore.

The forest school is a unique setting in North London where children can develop a holistic overview of outside life and in particular develop fine & gross motor skills.

I am looking forward to completing my qualification which is supported by the nursery and then working towards an advanced practitioner.”

“I initially started working at Annie’s during my gap year in 2020. I moved all the way to Bristol to study biomedical science, however the time I spent at university didn’t compare to the rewarding experience I had gained from Annie’s.

Therefore I realised that I wanted to pursue a career working with children, as the time I spent at Annie’s and co was so influential and having such a supportive team made me realise that this was what I love doing.

Luckily Annie has taken me back under her wing and now I’m currently doing my level 3 in early years. I’ve learnt many skills and working at Annie’s has built my confidence and I can’t wait to continue my journey.”

Current- Level 3

Early Years Educator

My name is Sahara and I used to be one of the nursery assistants that work at Annie's. I worked at the nursery for nearly 3 years in this time I have completed my level 3 and I’m currently in the process of completing my level 5 nursery manager qualification. These were just a couple of the many opportunities that were  offered to me! I went to work knowing that my experience and fondness of working within the forest and with kids was appreciated, I had an amazing team who listened, supported and encouraged me and the children to be the best we can be.

The team comes together everyday to deliver the best care for every child in the forest. I have learnt so much whilst working here. I loved working with my team and children making a difference everyday. Born in Enfield...made in the forest!”
